Archery
Focus, technique, and a little friendly competition
About Archery
Archery is one of our most accessible and engaging activities. Participants of all abilities can quickly develop technique and enjoy friendly competition. Led by qualified Archery GB instructors, sessions cover safety, technique, and target shooting.
Session Details
Key Features
All instruction is delivered by Archery GB qualified instructors, and equipment is matched to participant age, size, and ability with beginner-friendly draw weights available throughout. The session follows a structured progression from technique practice — covering stance, draw, anchor point, aim, and release — through to full target rounds with scoring. Individual, team, and competitive scoring formats are all available, and the session develops focus, posture, breath control, patience, and hand-eye coordination. Archery is particularly inclusive as success does not depend on physical size or prior athletic experience, making it one of our best activities for mixed-ability groups.
Badge and Programme Links
Archery is one of three activities explicitly named in the Scouts Master at Arms Activity Badge, with confirmed requirements including at least six training sessions, demonstrated improvement in technique and participation in a supervised contest. The Beaudesert session is the perfect introduction for Scouts beginning that journey. Girlguiding members earn the Sport Adventure Badge. The DofE website explicitly names archery as a qualifying Physical section activity — including for participants whose doctors advise against strenuous exercise, making it one of the most inclusive options on the programme. Schools connect to KS3 and KS4 PE's requirement to take part in competitive sports and activities. Archery also builds focus, patience, fine motor control and the ability to reset after a poor shot — transferable skills that show up long after camp is over.
Activity Information
Archery is governed by Archery GB, the national governing body for the sport in the United Kingdom. Our instructors hold Archery GB qualifications at the appropriate level. All equipment meets Archery GB specifications, and sessions are run in full accordance with Archery GB safety guidelines.
Why should you book with us?
Archery delivers something rare in outdoor education — an activity where effort, technique, and patience consistently outperform brute strength or natural athleticism. It rewards the participant who listens, concentrates, and applies what they have learned. That is a uniquely valuable lesson, and one that resonates long after the session ends.
All sessions are led by experienced, qualified instructors who understand how to work with groups of all ages and abilities. You can also hire our facilities and run this activity yourself with your own equipment and the relevant NGB qualification for a reduced cost.
