Session Details
Key Features
Participants have access to a wide range of circus equipment including juggling balls, scarves, clubs, diabolos, plate spinning sets, poi, flower sticks, and stilts. The session follows a progression-based approach so that complete beginners experience genuine success within minutes, while more coordinated participants are stretched towards more challenging skills. Throughout the session participants develop coordination, fine motor skills, concentration, and spatial awareness. The activity can run equally well indoors or outdoors, and an optional group showcase at the end of the session gives participants a chance to perform their favourite new skill.
Badge and Programme Links
Juggling, plate spinning, diablo — circus skills are an absolute crowd-pleaser that quietly deliver serious developmental value. For Girlguiding members, the session counts towards the Sport Adventure Badge, covering any activity involving equipment and skill. DofE participants pursuing circus skills as a regular practice — with documented improvement over time — can log it towards the Skills section. In school groups, circus skills support the KS2 PE requirement to "develop flexibility, strength, technique, control and balance," as well as KS2–KS4 Performing Arts. The real magic, though, is what happens to a young person who arrives convinced they can't juggle and leaves with three balls in the air — confidence, perseverance and a growth mindset in a single session.
