Key Features

The course features multiple physical challenge elements including balance beams, cargo nets, crawl tunnels, climbing frames, and agility sections, and can be adapted to run as an individual achievement, team time-trial, or collaborative relay format depending on the group's objectives. The natural competitive energy generated in team formats creates an excellent group atmosphere, and the activity develops agility, coordination, physical fitness, determination, and resilience throughout. A structured debrief is available for groups where linking the physical challenge experience to personal development themes is a priority, and the course scales in difficulty naturally as participants push themselves further.

Badge and Programme Links

The Challenge Course is a multi-element physical circuit that builds fitness, coordination and determination across a sustained period of effort. As an outdoor adventurous activity presenting physical and intellectual challenges, it delivers the statutory KS2, KS3 and KS4 PE OAA requirement directly. Girlguiding members earn the Sport Adventure Badge. Any residential visit including the Challenge Course counts towards the Nights Away Staged Activity Badge for Scouts and Cubs. The course is also one of the most honest measures of character development on the programme — it's long enough that participants hit a wall, have to make a choice about whether to keep going, and find out what they're actually made of.

Activity Information

Beaudesert operates the Challenge Course under a comprehensive risk assessment and site operating procedure, with all structural elements regularly inspected by qualified specialists.
