Session Details
Key Features
The dedicated downhill track runs along Beaudesert's natural hillside terrain and is inspected before every session. Helmets are provided and required for all participants without exception. The group rotation format means participants cheer each other from the bottom of the track and then take their own turn, generating natural excitement and group atmosphere. The activity requires virtually no instruction before participants are confidently off and riding, which makes it one of the most time-efficient high-energy activities we offer within a packed programme day.
Badge and Programme Links
The Cresta Run is pure, unfiltered fun — a grass sledging descent that delivers an instant adrenaline hit and a broad smile for every participant from Beavers to adults. Grass sledging is explicitly named on the Girlguiding website as an example activity for Rainbows earning the Land Adventure Badge — a direct, confirmed reference from girlguiding.org.uk. For Scouts, it contributes to the adventurous outdoor experiences that support the Our Adventure Challenge Award across sections. Schools access the KS2–KS4 PE requirement for outdoor and physically active experiences in natural environments. And sometimes the most important thing about an activity is simply this: it's completely exhilarating, it works for absolutely everyone, and it reminds young people — and leaders — that adventure can be joyful rather than terrifying.
Activity Information
Beaudesert operates the activity under a comprehensive risk assessment and site operating procedure. Helmets are required for all participants and the track is inspected before each session, with instructors trained in Cresta Run operation and participant safety management.
