Key Features
Sessions take place on a dedicated supervised range with a comprehensive safety briefing and equipment orientation before any shooting begins. The lightweight, purpose-designed crossbows are appropriate for younger participants while still providing a genuine technical challenge. Progressive target challenges allow participants to track their accuracy across the session, and scoring and competition formats can be introduced to add competitive energy. The activity develops precision, calm concentration, and fine motor control in a format that feels genuinely novel and distinctive within a broader target sports programme.
Badge and Programme Links
Mini crossbows deliver all the focus and precision of target shooting in a compact, accessible format — and they're a genuine favourite with younger groups. The target sport structure qualifies Girlguiding members for the Sport Adventure Badge. For schools, they provide a great entry point into precision sport content within the KS1–KS4 PE framework. The session is outstanding for developing concentration, fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination and the habit of slowing down and being deliberate — qualities that young people increasingly struggle to access in a world of constant stimulation.
Activity Information
Beaudesert operates the activity under a dedicated risk assessment and range safety operating procedure, with all instructors trained in range supervision and safe equipment handling.
