Crate Stacking
Work together, stay steady, and see how high you can climb.
About Crate Stacking
Crate Stacking is an exciting activity that challenges you to climb higher with every crate added beneath you. Success depends on teamwork, trust, and determination as you work together to keep the tower steady and reach new heights. As the challenge grows, so does your confidence, rewarding you with a huge sense of achievement. Whether you're aiming for a personal best or cheering on your teammates, Crate Stacking is all about pushing your limits and celebrating every step upwards.

Key Features
Every climber wears a full harness with an overhead belay system throughout, while the ground team takes on the critical role of steadying the tower and supporting the climber with verbal guidance. Groups naturally compete to beat the record height, which generates enormous energy and engagement. The activity is highly effective at developing verbal communication, trust, balance, and physical coordination simultaneously. Instructors can facilitate a structured debrief focusing on teamwork and communication themes for groups where that learning outcome is a priority, making this activity as suitable for team development purposes as it is for pure adventure.
Badge and Programme Links
Crate Stacking stands out as one of the most badge-relevant activities we offer. For Scouts, the Climber Activity Badge recognises climbing-style activities such as crate stacking and high ropes as an alternative route to completing the badge. For Girl-guiding, crate stacking is specifically listed as an example activity for Brownies working towards their Height Adventure Badge. That means a single session can contribute directly towards recognised badge achievements in both organisations.
For DofE participants, regular involvement can also count towards their Physical section. In schools, the activity supports Outdoor and Adventurous Activities (OAA) objectives across KS2 to KS4, combining physical challenge with teamwork and problem-solving.
What makes Crate Stacking particularly valuable is that success depends on far more than the person at the top. The ground team play a vital role, communicating clearly, offering encouragement and responding to changing situations throughout the challenge. As a result, it's one of the strongest activities in our programme for building confidence, teamwork and genuine group dynamics.
Activity Information
The activity is delivered using purpose-designed harness and belay systems, with instructors working through strict internal training and sign-off with some holding NGB qualifications. All equipment is regularly inspected and maintained to EN standards.
